My Bio
ABOUT ME
My first full-time graphic design job came at the young age of 15, creating packaging for products commonly found in the frozen food aisle of grocery stores. Since then, I have built a career spanning more than 30 years in graphic design, illustration, branding, advertising, marketing communications, product development, website design, and software UI/UX.
Along the way, I have earned a few impressive-sounding management titles, collaborated with talented people, and contributed to a wide range of successful projects. My bio here provides a quick overview of my professional journey, with a look into my work experience and education.
The further you explore, the more eclectic the story becomes. Watch for some unexpected and memorable intersections with Muhammad Ali, Spike Lee, Rush Limbaugh, and the U.S. Armed Forces, just a few of the unusual chapters that have shaped my career.
MY TRAJECTORY
As Senior Designer and Creative Director at 360 Elevated, a full-service marketing and advertising agency in Layton, Utah, I lead creative initiatives across branding, marketing, and design. My career began at age 15 in packaging design and has since evolved through more than three decades of experience serving as a Graphic Designer, Senior Draftsman, and Advertising Director for organizations of all sizes.
At Herff Jones Publishing, the world’s second-largest yearbook publisher, I advanced from Senior Designer and Illustrator to Creative Director. In that role, I managed the company’s brand, created a national Creative Services program featuring tiered design offerings, pricing strategies, and sales commission structures. I also managed a team of six full-time designers supporting more than 80 sales representatives and 1,800 customers across the Western United States.
My next career move brought me to Carpediem International, where I served as Senior Designer and Creative Director. In this role, I led the design and development of celebrity apparel collections for Muhammad Ali, Spike Lee, and Rush Limbaugh, while overseeing creative initiatives for licensed merchandise programs representing the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB. As the department’s creative lead, I designed and developed the company’s brand, managed a team of nine designers and two Art Directors, directing concept development, brand compliance, and product design across multiple high-profile accounts and licensing programs.
Prior to joining 360 Elevated in my current role, I served as Senior Designer and Creative Director at StoryRock for more than 19 years. During that time, the company evolved from a software development firm into a digital publishing organization, eventually launching two successful divisions: Remember My Service, a military-focused publishing company, and MyMemories, a digital scrapbooking software and graphics brand. I played a key role in guiding the creative vision, branding, product development, and marketing efforts throughout each stage of the company’s growth.
StoryRock’s Remember My Service division collaborated with the United States Department of Defense, the governments of South Korea and Kuwait, and the United States Department of Energy to create and publish large-format commemorative books recognizing the contributions of U.S. military veterans. These award-winning publications were produced and distributed at a scale of hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide.
At the same time, MyMemories grew into one of the world’s largest digital scrapbooking platforms, featuring a robust eCommerce marketplace with millions of digital graphics, templates, and creative assets. StoryRock also developed and maintained the industry’s top-selling digital scrapbooking software, which served as the foundation of the MyMemories ecosystem and helped drive the division’s rapid growth and market footprint.
In addition, my involvement with the software development team at StoryRock provided me with hands-on experience with UX/UI development, application graphic design, testing, and implementation of the company’s proprietary white-label software applications.
My technical proficiency spans a broad range of creative and business software platforms. I am highly experienced with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, Dreamweaver, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, and After Effects. I am also familiar with Figma, and various AI applications. In addition, I possess advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, utilizing these tools extensively for project management, collaboration, content development, and business communications.
My educational background combines formal training in art, design, marketing, and business leadership. I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Illustration from Utah State University, with minors in Graphic Design, Marketing and Advertising Design, and Art History. I also completed two Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees in Graphic Design and Illustration Design from Salt Lake Community College. Complementing my academic credentials, I completed advanced sales and management training programs through Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis as part of Herff Jones’ leadership development initiative.
My professional accolades and recognition include a feature in the New York Times Style Section for my design work on the Rush Limbaugh neckwear line, as well as coverage in People Magazine for my “Infectious Awareables” microscopic organism apparel designs. Additional editorial recognition includes write-ups in GQ and USA Today for apparel designs created for Muhammad Ali.
My work has also been recognized with a Starch Readership Award for best market response to an advertisement featured in Modern Salon magazine. Earlier honors include “Best of Show” in the Utah Intercollegiate Arts Competition and multiple first-place awards in illustration and graphic design at the university level.
In addition, I was named a Sterling Scholar in Visual Arts by the Deseret News during high school, earned National Honor Roll recognition, competed as a VICA district, state, and regional champion in architectural drafting design, and was a National Merit Scholar finalist.
